Web Page Creation...a very popular exercise for everyday people, but with multiple levels of difficulty (quite challenging at first) that really depend upon your needs, ideas and goals.
The details (known as "HTTP") behind many web pages may be viewed by selecting the browser's "View...Source" menu... please try doing that on this page? The complicated-looking text that pops up in an editor is a great place to pick up ideas!
You can save this information as a text file to your PC and then make adjustments, additions and enhancements to the HTML, finally publishing the page to your web server.
You should check out an active example of this at the Owl's page, which shares some Wiki-based PC advice... Also, the blue text shown at the top of this page is from a built-in "clock" that displays varying hello messages based on the time that you open the page. Search this page's source for "DJS" (use the browser's "View...Source" menu) to see how it's done...also go spend some time with the WebTeacher who's pretty smart!
If you're thinking about how you might create an interactive web site, please recognize that this is NOT a simple task! To learn a little more about things that can interact with the user, start with ASP web code advice. Once you have a grasp of this, the W3 Schools (parent site) shares even more about servers and so forth
A generally easier way to create a web page is to use the WetPaint server, a "free" website host. Go explore setting up a free site there. You could also use one of the many alternatives such as GoDaddy (a sign-up link is below) but please read the WiKi for some less obvious complexities!!
Finally, you could go learn more about things like TCP/IP & its predecessor, the OSI 7-layer protocol (protocols matrix) and some basic HTML... you might also think about how to get basic web space and sign up (GoDaddy) for just $4...
Software Development is something that you should contemplate quite carefully before leaping off the cliff... If you've no schooling at all in writing a simple "Hello, World" program with Interpreted Basic, just $5 will get you off the ground at the eLearners web site.
Once you've got some ideas for how to start, you'll also benefit from VBA SDK guidance.
Next, Java is perhaps the most sophisticated application development language that is available to you at no cost. To learn more about the language and history, spend some time with a visit to Java Wiki. Technical threads are best viewed at Java.net where the Wizards hang out...
Download and use the Eclipse tool, also, one of the the best SDK's available. ANT (Another Neat Tool) is provided as part of Eclipse; information can be viewed here.
C & its object-oriented cousin C++ provide some of the most concise complied code from machine-level software to full-blown applications... viewing this background advice is worth your time. Microsoft's C++ is free.
Windows scripting is a means to allow you to "drive the PC bus" the way that you want to... PCTools shares some valuable info on how to build and use this tool.
SQL (Structured Query Language) is the industry standard method for retrieving information from online databases such as the weather, USGS or zip-code data. The ZDNet comment page share a contemplation as to whether Access is better than SQL Express.
Excel-based applications are the final thought that I will offer in this section -- guess I've saved the "best for last" here, so to speak!
With a set of live data on a web server, an automated Windows application can be built to fetch key data elements on a daily basis, process them into a live display and keep track of the data from the last 13 weeks... The design required a degree of knowledge for Excel, VBA, CSVs, APF and Windows scheduled tasks.
How do I know this? A recent successful project did precisely what I've listed... Details? Please contact me by eMail
As the penultimate thought, Common Computer Complexities can be, well, (ahem) a pretty deep subject!! ;~)
If your PC is just "acting up a little", there's ususally a simple fix or 2 that you can try... these are almost always irritations that can be made to go away!
Depending on your problem, you might want to look for help from the folks at... c|net, Systems.com, MSN or go visit Don's OwlOn another front, some terrifc web search sites are Google, a very fast table-lookup system, Ask Mr. Jeeves, a really slick question interpretation tool, and Copernic, a multi-site search tool.
You can also visit Creative Logic's "Back Office" for some historical info.
If your PC is refusing to start or simply will not participate at all with you then you're probably going to need some professional help... In fact, you probably wouldn't be able to get here for help, so please note this info: MSN Support by Phone USA: (877) 635-7019 TTY users, please call (800) 892-5234
